Angela Sawyer is Lecturer in Old Testament and Dean of Students at Stirling Theological College, Melbourne Australia.
Angela’s PhD is in the area of Isaiah, exilic theology, and post-church Australia. She completed an Arts degree in Social Sciences, (La Trobe University), Graduate Diploma in Education (Monash University), and Master of Divinity (Bible College of Victoria).
Angela’s research interests include Isaiah; Hebrew Bible Prophets; Trauma studies; Exile; Feminist Criticism; Metaphor studies; Daughter Zion; Contextual Bible Study; Secularism; and, Hebrew Bible texts of war and violence.
She actively teaches the following units: Introducing the Hebrew Bible; Justice in the Hebrew Bible; Bible, Trauma, and Growth; Reading the Bible for Transformation; Ecclesiastes; Introduction to Biblical Studies for Ministry Practice; Isaiah. Angela coordinates the Academic Skills resources and study sessions, and Student Wellbeing areas of the college.
Angela has been involved in community-based Bible engagement projects with a focus on justice, as well as writing for church publications. With a background in pastoral ministry, Angela continues to preach, give public seminars and run workshops on biblical literacy in local communities, including churches and pastoral groups of various denominations.
