Dr Anna Nürnberger

PhD

HDR Supervisor

Anna is Director of Research at Australian Lutheran College, assisting in supporting research students and furthering ALC’s research program. She also lectures in Biblical Studies, both at Australian Lutheran College and Uniting College of Leadership and Theology, and acts as the Lutheran Theological Journal Co-Editor.

Anna was born and grew up in Nuremberg, Germany. She studied theology, Anglophone literature and English linguistics at the universities of Erlangen and Augsburg in Germany, and at Flinders University and the Adelaide College of Divinity in South Australia. Having received her teaching degree from Augsburg University in 2007, she taught in secondary schools in Bavaria prior to working as Research Assistant and Lecturer at Hamburg University. In 2017 Anna obtained her doctoral degree in biblical theology from Augsburg University. Her thesis, which was published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht in 2019, explores articulations of inner dissonance and doubt in the pre-Christian era, in early Jewish writings and in early Christianity.

Anna’s primary area of interest lies at the intersection of (biblical) theology and psychology, particularly in the fields of historical psychology and psychology of religion. She is also interested in theories of the emotions and body imagery in antiquity.
