Dr Arthur Keefer

BA, MDiv, PhD

Arthur Keefer is an Honorary Research Associate at Trinity College in the field of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, holding the Decani Scholarship at Clare College from 2015-2017, and then worked as a schoolmaster and chaplain at Eton College from 2017-2023.

His research focuses on the interpretation of the HB/OT within its ancient Near Eastern context and in its relation to ancient and contemporary philosophy. His books include Proverbs 1-9 as an Introduction to the Book of Proverbs (Bloomsbury: LHBOTS, 2020), The Book of Proverbs and Virtue Ethics: Integrating the Biblical and Philosophical Traditions (Cambridge University Press, 2021), and Ecclesiastes and the Meaning of Life in the Ancient World (Cambridge University Press, 2022). His work on Hebrew philology and phonology, the Bible’s reception history, and other aspects of biblical interpretation has been published in over 20 articles and chapters. He co-edited The Cambridge Companion to Biblical Wisdom Literature (2022) with Katharine Dell and Suzanna Millar, and currently serves as Book Review Editor for the Journal of Theological Studies. His current research includes work on Job and biblical wisdom literature, and a long term project on biblical ethics.
