Rev. Dr Bernard Teo is a member of the Department of Mission and Ministry at the Yarra Theological Union. He lectures in moral theology, social justice, bioethics and sexual ethics. He is a priest of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in Australia.
He had studied theology and philosophy in India prior to ordination and did his postgraduate studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington. He wrote his dissertations on the Principle of Subsidiarity in the political philosophy of Jacques Maritain for his Licentiate in Theology Degree in 1987, and the Morality of Presumed Consent in Public Policies for Organ Procurement for Transplantation for his Doctor in Sacred Theology Degree in 1989.
He also lectures at the Catholic Theological College in Auckland, which is affiliated with the University of Notre Dame, Australia. He had also taught in Singapore and the Philippines.
His areas of teaching include fundamental moral theology, ethics in medicine, the social teachings of the Catholic Church, justice and human rights, marriage and human sexuality, and major issues in contemporary moral theology.
In Auckland New Zealand he was also involved in parish ministries and served in the Auckland Diocese Commission for Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Dialogue. He has also served in Hospital Ethics Committees in Singapore and Melbourne.
His main areas of academic interests include justice, human sexuality, scripture and moral theology, contemporary biomedical ethics, and human rights.
