Rev Prof Frank Moloney SDB, AM, FAHA

Francis J. Moloney joined the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1959 and was ordained a Priest in 1970. He has studied at Melbourne University, the Salesian Pontifical University, the Pontifical Biblical Institute, both in Rome, and at the University of Oxford. He is the author of numerous books and shorter studies.

Lecturer in New Testament at the Salesian Pontifical University (Rome: 1975-76), Lecturer and Head of the Biblical Studies Department at Catholic Theological College (1977-1994)Foundation Professor of Theology at Australian Catholic University (1994-1999), Dean and Professor of New Testament at the Catholic University of America (1999-2005). Director of the Early Christian Literature and Bible section of the Institute for Critical Inquiry into Religion at Australian Catholic University (2013-2016). Visiting Professor at the Salesian Pontifical University, Rome(regular), the Gregorian University, Rome (1976), the Ecole Biblique et Archeologique de Jerusalem (1990), the Biblical Institute, Rome (1992), the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, USA (2007), St Mary University and Seminary, Cleveland, USA (2013). Member of scholarly societies: Societas Novi Testamenti Studiorum, Catholic Biblical Association of America (President: 2001-2002), Society of Biblical Literature, Catholic Biblical Association of Australia, Fellowship for Biblical Studies (Australia). Member or the Order of Australia (AM), and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (FAHA). Currently a Senior Professorial Fellow at the Catholic Theological College in Melbourne, Australia, part of the ecumenical University of Divinity.

Major research in the Gospels of John, Mark, and the Book of Revelation, leading to a number of internationally acclaimed publications.

He continues to teach in support of other New Testament lecturers. He continues to direct major research initiatives within the University of Divinity and elsewhere.

Strong involvement in the Catholic community as a Priest and a Religious. Actively interested in ecumenical initiatives in Australia and overseas.
