Michael A Kelly is an ordained member of the Redemptorist Congregation. Currently, he is the Religious Education Coordinator and Chair of Field D, Theology: Mission and Ministry, at Yarra Theological Union, a member College of the University of Divinity.
Michael completed his PhD at Boston College in 1992 and has taught at YTU since his return from overseas except for a term of Provincial Leadership and academic sabbaticals in Dublin, San Francisco, Boston and Durham. He has held leadership positions in many of the University Committees most notably as Chair of the Academic Board and a member of the Council of the University for eight years. He has pioneered in partnership with others the introduction of the awards of the: Graduate Certificate in Teaching Religious Education, and the Master of Education and Theology.
He has edited and contributed to three Festschrifts and written several book chapters as well as articles in refereed journals on homiletics, religious education, and leadership. He has almost twenty years of engagement with the Redemptorists in Asia-Oceania as Executive Secretary and Treasurer for seventeen years.
Since 1993, he has taught a range of different units at the rate of approximately three units a semester. These units have principally been in Field D: Theology: Mission and Ministry. He also contributed significantly to the former professional degrees of the University in the Master and Doctorate of Ministry Studies.
Since his ordination to the priesthood he has been involved in parish renewals, regular weekend ministry and preaching in a parish context.
