Originally from New Zealand, Richard is an experienced missionary (serving in Papua New Guinea) and has worked as a parish pastor in numerous congregations in Australia over many years. This extensive background in ministry informs his approach to both systematics and pastoral theology.
Richard’s MTh thesis examined the place of the resurrection in the theology of Karl Barth, exploring how the resurrection functions as both an act of reconciliation and a means of revelation.
Richard teaches in the areas of Prolegomena; Trinitarian theology; Creation and Redemption; Sanctification; Moral Theology; Spirituality; and Pastoral Care.
Richard is a consultant to the Lutheran Church’s Commission on Social and Bioethical Questions, which has recently addressed issues such as climate change and earth care; vaccination hesitancy; and conversion therapy legislation.
