Ross has taught in the University of Divinity since 1998, and been heavily involved in academic administration and leadership for much of that time. He has been Academic Dean at Yarra Theological Union since 2012.
His research is primarily in the field of ecclesiology, with an interest in how the church may become humbler and healthier. He is also interested in the history and theology of the Anglican Church and of the ecumenical movement.
He has been an Anglican Priest since 1983, and has served in parish across metropolitan Melbourne in addition to working in theological education since 1994.
