Dr Sheilagh Ilona O’Brien is the Registrar and Lecturer in Church History at St Francis College.
Sheilagh’s PhD thesis focused on Witchcraft and Diabolism in Early Modern England. Prior to her doctoral studies, she completed a Masters in International Studies (Peace & Conflict Resolution), with a thesis on the failure of international responses to the Rwandan Genocide; a Graduate Certificate in Education (TESOL); and a Bachelor Of Arts in History/History. Sheilagh’s honours thesis focused on the connections between race, religion, and nationalism by examining the religious and cultural underpinnings of Afrikaner Nationalism and the formation of historical myths that underpinned the Apartheid system.
Sheilagh’s current research focuses on the interconnections between religion and violence in myths, literature, and history.
