Tom is a pastor of the Lutheran church, and since 2017 has been Lecturer in Church History at ALC, teaching all periods of church history, philosophy and apologetics.
Before studying for the ministry Tom studied economics and classics at Monash and the University of Melbourne. He was ordained in 2010 and served the Grovedale parish for four years. During 2015 and 2016 he studied for his masters at Concordia Seminary, St Louis, writing on Augustine’s treatment of nature and grace and its reception today. He is now a PhD student at Australian Catholic University where his focus of research is on Cyril of Alexandria and his treatise De Adoratione et Cultu in Spiritu et Veritate.
Tom has written and researched in Lutheran dogmatics, but his primary focus of research is in patristics. He has studied and written on Augustine at the University of Melbourne and Concordia Seminary, St Louis. His current research revolves around the fifth century Egyptian bishop, Cyril of Alexandria and his liturgical and exegetical catechesis.

Tom is a member of the Lutheran Church of Australia’s Commission on Worship, and a member of the Australian Lutheran-Roman Catholic Dialogue, serving as the Lutheran secretary.
Tom is a regular guest on the Kairos YouTube channel and has given presentations and lead workshops on a number of topics around Australia and beyond.
