Titus is Senior Lecturer in Missiology at Whitley College. A theological anthropologist with a background in missiology and contextual theology, he has degrees from Nigeria, The Netherlands and Australia. He is currently the founding CEO, Principal Researcher and Board Member of the Action Research Centre Ltd – a not-for-profit organisation that combines research with advocacy for social change on issues affecting migrant communities. Titus also served as the Whitley College Interim Director of Research for a fourteen-month period, from September 2023.
Titus was awarded the Australian Commonwealth’s ‘International Postgraduate Research Scholarship’ (IPRS) for doctoral study, from 2013-2016, and he completed his PhD from the University of Divinity in 2016. His thesis, entitled Jesus in Nigerian Christianity: An exploration of some aspects of Christology that may contribute to peace and mutuality, developed a relevant and contextual Christology for contemporary Nigeria against the backdrop of the lingering crises of peace and mutuality, and the dominant form of Christology.
Titus’s research expertise is in qualitative and quantitative research, with interests in the areas of faith and development, missiology, new religious movements, migration and diaspora movements, Pentecostalism, and contextual theologies. He is particularly interested in how theology addresses perennial social (and human) concerns in the postmodern world. He has designed and co-delivered qualitative research projects focusing on the inclusion of African refugees and asylum seekers in Victoria, Australia. Titus has been awarded several large competitive grants, including from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation in 2022, and from the University of Divinity in 2022.
